SouthGate Companies of Iowa City has donated $50,000 to local charities as they celebrate their 50th anniversary. The five charities that received $10,000 each are Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity, Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County, Summer of the Arts, Iowa Women’s Foundation, and Coaches Vs. Cancer, which is directing the funds locally to Hope Lodge.
“The $10,000 will be directed to our Women Build home, which this year is going to a single mother of five children,” said Mark Patton, Executive Director for Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity. “She works in the cafeteria at West High School and will be in her warm new home by the second week of December.”
“This donation is a wonderful expression of SouthGate’s commitment to helping youth and families in the Iowa City area, and we are extremely grateful to them,” said Brian Loring, Executive Director for Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County. “They have been a good partner and friend to Neighborhood Centers for many years. We look forward to continuing our collaboration into the future as we work together to help kids and adults find success in our community.”
